At Shens Clinic, Short Incision Breast Augmentation (SIBA) is a signature procedure performed by our consultant plastic surgeon, that can be safely carried out using breast implants or fat grafting. In comparison to other plastic surgery clinics in Singapore where breast augmentation is available, the surgical procedure for breast implants can be completed in 30 minutes through a short incision of 2.5cm.
Dr Shenthilkumar Naidu (Dr Shens) is our dexterous aesthetic plastic surgeon, a member of the Singapore Association of Plastic Surgeons. Thenceforth, minimal scarring can be achieved with post-surgery laser treatment provided at Shens Clinic.
With the aid of Motiva, augmentation with breast implants enables individuals to attain a natural look and feel minus the common complication risks of breast implants.
The breast will appear high on the chest with tightness for the next few weeks. It will lower down after the first week and more as time goes by. Relaxation of the chest muscle will vary for individuals. Bruising will occur on the third day after the plastic surgery is done. During this period, our surgeon will have patients come back to review the healing process.
Note: Shens Clinic does not use breast fillers. They are currently not allowed by the Ministry of Health, Singapore.
At Shens Clinic, we primarily use silicone-gel breast implants, such as the MOTIVA implants, which are entirely made of silicone.
The silicone-gel implants are inserted over the pectoralis major and pectoralis minor muscles or under the pectoralis major and above the pectoralis minor chest muscles (pectoral muscle). The implants can be inserted through incisions of the armpits (trans axillary incision), areola (nipples region) or along the crease of the breasts.
One of the most successful brands of implants is MOTIVA Implants. The implants are safe whilst providing a very natural look and feel.
The silicone breast implants come in various sizes and two shapes - mainly round and teardrop. Thus, it is important to have a discussion with your aesthetic plastic surgeon to get the most suitable types of breast implants for the desired shape and look.

During the Lipo-filling procedure, the breast surgeon harvests fat tissue from parts of the body, thighs or abdomen. These fat cells will be used to enlarge the breast, helping the breast get a fuller, totally natural feeling breasts. Lipo-filling is a natural and safe procedure. Using fat tissues from the patient's own body ensures no allergy risks.
The procedure is done using a closed system of transfer known as pure graft. As the autologous fat transfer requires liposuction and preparation of the fat for transfer, the procedure can take about 4 hours to complete the breast enlargement surgery.
The fat transfer to the breast, commonly known as the pure graft procedure, has a shorter downtime and lesser scarring (1mm) compared to the insertion of breast implants via Short Incision Breast Augmentation (not more than 2cm). The body fat is harvested through the liposuction procedure, thus having its own downside.
The treatment is minimally invasive; there are no actual incisions on the breast as the fat is injected with a cannula. Therefore, there are no scars or downtime. Having said that, the procedure used to extract these fats is liposuction, and it can have its downsides. Another positive of fat grafting is that no foreign objects are inserted in the chest, which lowers the risk of infection and complications. Plus, volumising the breast using the patient's own fat creates natural results.
However, one disadvantage of the treatment is that it doesn't increase the breast size significantly. The biggest size increase you can go is one cup size. As well as this, in rare cases, fat grafting may affect mammogram images if some of the transferred fat cells calcify. Furthermore, breast lifts are not possible with this method of breast enlargement.

Breastfeeding should not be a problem for women with breast augmentation, depending on the implant size and its placement and the type of breast surgery. The nipple incision method may cause damage to the mammary gland, ducts and nerves. Injury to the nerves around the nipple can reduce the let-down response when milk from the glands is released during nursing. Damaged milk ducts may reduce your milk production. Ducts may also be blocked, reducing the flow of milk and causing the breasts to swell. There are a few methods to insert the implant without damaging your milk glands.

An anaesthetist does the procedure at our day surgery facility under sedation and local anaesthesia. Sometimes general anaesthesia may be necessary. Our consultant plastic surgeon will then perform the incision during this period. During the surgery, patients will experience no pain as they will be sleeping.
The most likely medical complications include a thick scar, capsular contracture (formation of hard scar tissue around the implant), breast implant illness, noticeable creases in the implant, breast pain, and breast implant rupture. Silent rupture is also possible. Some of these may require additional cosmetic surgery. It should be noted that textured implants are more likely to create problems. That said, if plastic surgeon is well versed in their craft, the potential risk is minimal.
Suppose you are a candidate for breast enhancement plastic surgery. In that case, you will be required to undergo general medical tests to ensure that you are in good health, as well as a breast examination for breast lumps or other abnormalities. Further, the patient's skin laxity will also be assessed. Considering your goals and body dimensions, the surgeon will determine the right types of breast implants, incision options and accurate placement to achieve the patient desires.
It is important that you are not a smoker or that you cease smoking several weeks before and after the treatment. Pregnant women are not suitable for the breast augmentation procedure and other stated aesthetic treatments.
This method is very blunt as the incision location is furthest away from the breast. Most board-certified plastic surgeons will only choose round implants for this procedure. The scar is well hidden through the armpit as well.
Scar tissue may look differently depending on the types of incision and surgical incision location.
Although this method is not usually preferable for breast implant surgery as this may damage milk glands, some patients find this type of incision-less painful post-op. For post-surgery treatment, patients can undergo laser resurfacing to reduce the visibility or tattoo the nipple colour to hide the otherwise visible scar around the nipple.
This method is most preferred with a short incision point from the breast inframammary fold (inframammary incision). The scar will be hidden. The patient can opt to laser resurfacing treatment to lighten the scar at the inframammary fold.
In most cases, breast augmentation patients are unfamiliar with the more intricate medical terms, so they often ask: “How many cc’s are in a bra cup size”? In general, bra size seems to vary from one manufacturer to another, which makes it difficult to name a specific number here. It has been agreed, though, that one cup size is equal to approximately 130-150 cc. This should give you a clue as to how many cubic centimetres you want.
That being said, you need to have a thorough conversation with your aesthetic plastic surgeon to determine the desired breast size. They will hand you samples of silicone breast implants that differ in texture, shape, and size to help you visualise the results and the look. There is also a special program that can help you get there. When deciding on breast implant shapes and size, the team has to keep the patient's body shape in mind.
Another thing that patients are keenly interested in is when the results materialise after the breast implants procedure. It has to be said that they progress with time. Your bust will begin to look normal when the swelling is over, and the implants settle, which usually happens around the third month’s mark. Of course, it varies from patient to patient and is strongly individualised. Your aesthetic plastic surgeon will monitor your journey and warn you about any potential side effects.
It is important to mention that the outcome could change as a result of weight gain, ageing, gravity, childbirth, etc. Breast revision surgery is available for women with breast issues after their initial plastic surgery.
