SMAS or Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System lift is the method of lifting prematurely skin and slack facial muscles. In the process of aging, the facial muscle and fats starts to sag due to the prolonged inevitable exposure to gravity and the looseness of the muscle.
SMAS lifting is usually done with a neck lift. It treats the deepest of the face with the lifting of the muscle, subcutaneous fat and connective tissues. So unlike facelifts that are only skin deep, the SMAS lift treats sagging face from the inside and the excess skin are removed once the SMAS has been lifted. The SMAS lift will also be able to give a more natural smoother and tighter skin.
The average downtime is about a week* for some of the swelling, bruising and discomfort to simmer down, much like any other surgeries. Medications will be provided to control the swelling and bruising. Skin care products should try to be avoided for the time being until the stitches are thoroughly healed.
