Achieve Fuller & Natural Looking Breasts - More Than 20 Years of Experience
Breast augmentation (also commonly known as “Boob Job”) is a cosmetic surgery that individuals undergo for breast enlargement. This procedure helps to increase the volume and enhance the shape of the breasts. In Singapore, the common methods of breast augmentation are the use of breast implants and fat grafting. This is because breast fillers are not allowed in Singapore. Most individuals decide to undergo breast augmentation to achieve their desired looks or for various underlying medical conditions. It is highly recommended to consult a certified plastic surgeon in Singapore for a thorough consultation if you are considering this procedure.
Breast augmentation is usually done for these reasons:
Apart from achieving the desired looks, breast augmentation also increases the fullness of the breasts, giving body proportions to dress better. It is also important to note that breast augmentation surgeries cannot correct severely droopy or sagging breasts. If patients are troubled with sagging breasts, the plastic surgeon may advise a breast lift (mastopexy).
Breast implants are the most common way that breast augmentation is done in Singapore. The implants come in different shapes and sizes, such as round or tear-drop implants. This provides the flexibility of matching an individual’s needs and desired looks. Patients will have to consider several factors such as their body type, lifestyle, and breast anatomy before deciding on the right shape and size of the implants. During consultation sessions, patients can also try on sizers to visualise how the different implant sizes will look on them. The plastic surgeon will also provide guidance and advice for patients to make an informed decision in selecting suitable breast implants.
In Singapore, breast implants are mainly categorised into silicone and saline implants. Silicone implants are filled with a silicone gel that feels like natural breast tissue, while saline implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution. Each type of breast implant comes with its own trade-offs; individuals should consult a plastic surgeon to better understand their differences.
Saline breast implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution, which is safe for the body in the event of an implant leak. They are also less expensive as compared to silicone implants. As saline implants can either come pre-filled or empty, it gives the surgeon flexibility to adjust the amount of fluid during the surgery to get the most desirable outcome. However, saline implants are more prone to rippling, which can be visible and palpable. They also do not feel or look as natural as silicone implants.
Silicone breast implants are a popular choice for many patients in Singapore due to their natural feel and appearance. The silicone gel filling closely mimics the feeling of natural breast tissue. They are also less likely to ripple, which is a common concern for some patients. More importantly, silicone breast implants come in various sizes, shapes, and textures to accommodate different body types and desired outcomes.
The breast implants can be placed either above or below the chest muscles (pectoralis major muscles). The breast implants can be inserted through an incision from either the underarm (axillary), around the nipples (peri-areolar), or under the crease of the breast (inframammary). The under-pectoral muscle incision (along the fold of the breast) is one of the most preferred methods, as it allows a short incision point and hides the scar well. Patients can also opt for laser resurfacing to reduce/ lighten the scar. The plastic surgeon would advise the most suitable approach based on the existing breast shape of the patient.
Three types of incisions that can be used for breast implant surgery:
1. Periareolar Incision: The incision is made around the nipple.
2. Transaxillary Incision: The incision is made in the armpit.
3. Inframammary Incision: The incision is made in the fold under the breast
Fat grafting is also another method of breast augmentation used in Singapore. The procedure requires fat to be harvested from other parts of the patient’s body such as the tummy, thighs, or butt areas. Fats will be extracted with liposuction and processed as injectables to be carefully injected into the breast. Sometimes, the process of fat transfer to the breasts may be carried out in a few sessions as grafted fat to ensure that the body has fully accepted the transferred fats.
Fat transfer breast augmentation also has several advantages as well. The fat tissues help to enlarge the breasts with a natural feel. Fat grafting to the breast will be a safer procedure as it uses the fat tissues from the patient to reduce allergy risks. As a less invasive technique, fat grafting has a shorter downtime and lesser scarring. However, it does not allow a significant increase in breast size as compared to the use of breast implants. Hence, it is usually done in combination with breast implants.
At Shens Clinic, breast augmentation surgery is performed by Dr Shens, a Korean-trained plastic surgeon with over 20 years of experience in this industry. With his expertise, Dr Shens offers both methods of breast augmentation and a hybrid of implants and fat grafting. Dr Shens uses a short-incision technique known as Short Incision Breast Augmentation (SIBA), which is an incision of around 2.5cm to help minimise scarring for his patients.
Breast augmentation at Shens Clinic is performed as an outpatient surgery where patients will be able to return home on the same day. Patients will be under anaesthesia; hence, no pain or discomfort will be felt during the procedure. Patients are also advised to dress comfortably and to arrange for someone to fetch them home after the breast enlargement surgery is completed.

Ergonomix2 by Motiva is made of Progressive Ultima gel which adapts to body movement better than traditional silicone gels tested, resembling the flexibility of the natural tissue. In addition, it has a controlled advanced smooth surface which makes the implant feel and look very natural.
The Motiva Minimalscar technology, which can be combined with your Joy Motiva implants, provides you with the opportunity to get your breast augmentation procedure with a very small and tiny incision, resulting in a more comfortable recovery and almost imperceptible scars.
All Motiva devices have a TrueMonoblock shell design, which not only makes them flexible but also stronger and longer-lasting. In addition, Motiva devices are less likely to cause complications such as ruptures or capsular contractures, reducing the chances of a breast augmentation revision.
This next-generation implant has the one-of-a-kind Bluseal+ (Blue implant) technology. The "blue implant" has a visual safety barrier which has the lowest level of gel diffusion compared to other silicone gels examined.

Breastfeeding should not be a problem for women that went through breast augmentation. However, there are a few factors to consider such as the implant size, placement, and the type of breast surgery. The nipple incision method may cause damage to the mammary gland, ducts, and nerves. Injury to the nerves around the nipple can reduce the let-down response when milk from the glands is released during nursing. Nonetheless, there are a few incision methods for breast implants without damaging your milk glands. Do consult a breast implant doctor in Singapore to understand more.
